E-file Options now Available…Income Tax Season Officially Kicks Off
On January 17, the Oklahoma Tax Commission officially launched the income tax filing season by opening up e-file and Free File options for Oklahoma taxpayers.
“This year we are proud to be able to again offer taxpayers many different options, electronically and via paper, when it comes to filing their income taxes,” said Paula Ross, OTC spokesperson.
A listing of online filing providers who offer Free File electronic filing of both the federal and Oklahoma tax returns to qualified Oklahoma taxpayers is available at www.tax.ok.gov. Online filing provider’s list qualifications that Oklahoma taxpayers must meet in order to qualify for free electronic filing of both the federal and Oklahoma returns. Taxpayers should note that to insure the free filing of both the federal and Oklahoma returns, they must select one of the Free File links found on the OTC website.
Taxpayers who do not qualify for one of the Oklahoma Free File options can still e-file their return. A listing of Oklahoma approved e-file providers is also available at www.tax.ok.gov.
More than 1.1 million taxpayers took advantage of e-filing their Oklahoma returns last year. Taxpayers who choose to e-file or Free File have a reduced error rate than those who file by paper. Also e-filers typically receive their refund in a fraction of the time it takes for a paper return to be processed.
Paper options are available for taxpayers who choose not to e-file. Both the resident and non-resident returns are available on the OTC website at www.tax.ok.gov. The OTC website can also assist taxpayers 24 hours a day with information on e-filing, online payment methods, and answers to frequently asked questions.
